In the Albany, NY/Capital District area where I practice Social Security Disability Law, it can take approximately one year between the time that a hearing request is filed and the date the hearing actually takes place. Because there is such a long wait, I always recommend that my clients keep a journal and document all of their medical treatment during that timeframe.
It is easy enough to write down the date and name of physician or provider after each examination. This way, you will have a complete list of all medical providers. This will insure that your attorney is able to secure all of the necessary medical records that may support your claim. Without a strong medical record, it is extremely difficult to win your case.
By keeping a journal, your attorney will be able to periodically update his information to insure that a complete medical record is being obtained. Documenting your medical care in a journal takes only a few minutes and can be extremely beneficial when it comes time for your hearing.
If you have question as to whether or not you may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits, feel free to contact our office.
